It might sound like a recipe for disaster but in fact, this is an occurrence that has been going on for almost ten years! I’m not talking about taking a swig of a gin & tonic before heading into the lab, but instead taking researchers out of the lab and into the pub to share their work with the public.
Pint of Science is an international, not-for-profit organisation that has been running since 2013. On 9-11th May 2022, hundreds of researchers will give talks on their work and engage with the public in pubs, bars and cafes across the country to make science accessible to anyone who’s interested. In Manchester, we are organising events for seven themes: beautiful mind, our body, our society, tech me out, planet earth, atoms to galaxies and creative reactions. Within each theme, there will be three events, each with a sub-theme. Our event organisers are just two weeks away from finalising their events before tickets go on sale at the start of April.
Our teams are currently looking for people to speak at their events. Pint of Science is a great opportunity for anyone looking to get involved with public engagement and would make an impressive addition to your CV. Getting involved as a speaker this year will also put you in a good position to help organise our events next year if you’re interested in volunteering with Pint of Science in the future… and if that’s not enough to convince you, all speakers will get a pint (on us!) and a branded Pint of Science pint glass (see below)!

We are asking for anyone with knowledge of, or an interest in, the sub-themes below to please get in touch on posmanchester@yahoo.co.uk by Friday 18th March.
