What is Pint of Science?
You may recognise the name, Pint of Science, from Jill’s blog post When alcohol and research mix… earlier this year, but let us reintroduce ourselves. We are Pint of Science and we are a global science festival, bringing experts to your local pub, café or space to share their discoveries with the general public (think TED talks at the local). Over the last 11 years, Pint of Science has grown astronomically, and we now hold events across 38 cities in the UK and 25 countries worldwide! We are passionate about bringing scientists, researchers and experts together with members of the public, being curious about new topics and chatting about current research!
We’re currently looking for volunteers to help organise our events, read more to see if Pint of Science is for you…

What did we do for the last festival?
In May 2022, Manchester saw an extremely successful Pint of Science festival. We had 8 fantastic teams of volunteers, who ran a whopping total of 23 events – and we were ecstatic to learn that this was the highest number of events run by any city team! Our teams covered a whole host of themes with their events: Atoms to Galaxies, Beautiful Mind, Our Body, Planet Earth, Tech Me Out, Our Society and Creative Reactions. Check out the full list of events here.

When is the next festival?
We are extremely excited to let you know that the next festival is taking place 22-24 May 2023 – and this festival is going to be even bigger, and even better than the last!

I love the sound of Pint of Science; how do I get involved?
To make Pint of Science 2023 what it is, we couldn’t do it without some amazing volunteers – so, we need your help! At the moment, we are looking for volunteers to help with next year’s Pint of Science Festival here in Manchester and we would love to have you on board. Each volunteer brings their own unique spin on the festival, and this really helps shape our events, bring research alive and, most importantly, makes Pint of Science what it is. This year, we are particularly in need of volunteers to help with Creative Reactions, Tech Me Out and Our Society.
So, if you’d like to get involved, we would love to hear from you! You can drop us an email at pintofsciencemanchester@gmail.com and we’ll give you more information about Pint of Science, and the voluntary role. We’d love to have you as part of our team! Alternatively, if you have an interesting talk that you’d like to give at one of our events, please drop us an email and we can put you in touch with the relevant team.
