In2science are searching for volunteers to work with them on their summer programme to mentor and teach students from underrepresented backgrounds to help them realise their full potential within STEM.
What is In2science?
The In2science summer programme provides disadvantaged Year 12 students with the support, skills and experience needed to achieve their potential and progress to degrees, apprenticeships and careers in STEM.
The programme connects students to volunteers from STEM fields to share their insights and knowledge. Volunteers will host groups of approximately three students for a one or two week in-person placement during the summer of 2023 to complement a programme of online activities.
The In2scienceUK team provides full support and training to its volunteers to enable them to develop and deliver engaging opportunities, in turn helping students of all abilities to build the skills, knowledge and confidence to progress on to university, STEM jobs and apprenticeship programmes. The 2023 In2science summer programme will deliver:
- An in-person placement with a volunteer STEM professional. During this one or two week placement you can give valuable insights into daily life working in STEM, boost your subject knowledge and provide valuable experience helping a young person forge their career journey.
- Online workshops designed to provide young people with the skills they need to progress to university, apprenticeships and careers. These include careers panels, application advice, and talks from universities and employers.
- Public engagement competitions to allow your students to share their experiences and everything they’ve learned, develop their communication skills, and showcase their creativity. They’ll even be in with a chance of winning great prizes.
After the programme, students also have the chance to join In2science’s exclusive Alumni Community. Here, they have the opportunity to connect with like-minded peers, attend events, and receive support for their future.
Who should apply?
In2science are looking for volunteers with an interest in outreach and a passion for addressing the inequalities that exist within the STEM sector. Whether you’re an academic, PhD student, technician or other STEM professional, In2science want you to share your experiences with underrepresented students and help to ensure they reach their full potential.
What are the benefits?
Volunteering with In2scienceUK you will:
- Make a real difference to the prospects of disadvantaged students
